This section of our resource library offers a variety of IB History Paper 1 lesson plans for the IB History Paper 1 Prescribed subjects section. These lesson plans are designed to help students excel in the Paper 1 examination, which is a source-based paper that lasts for 1 hour. The examination includes four sources, one of which is a visual source such as a cartoon or map, and four questions that require students to use their source analysis skills.
Our lesson plans provide opportunities for students to explore a variety of IB Paper 1 topics through examining primary and secondary sources. This allows students to understand how to analyze sources in a critical manner and support their analysis with clear and specific examples directly from the sources.
The Paper 1 examination is marked out of 24 and assesses the following skills: comprehension of the sources, evaluating the values and limitations of one source, comparison of two sources, and synthesizing sources and the students’ own knowledge in an analytical essay question.
Our lesson plans include a variety of activities to cater to different learning styles, such as individual and group work, critical analysis, films, and debates. These activities have been created and perfected by fully qualified IB History teachers, based on teacher and student feedback.
By learning how to work with sources, students can gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the past. Our IB Paper 1 lesson plans provide students with numerous opportunities to understand and practice source-based questions, as well as learn how to format their answers in the correct format desired by the International Baccalaureate. With our comprehensive and engaging lesson plans, your students will be well-prepared for the Paper 1 examination.
