Lessons on Civil Rights Movement USA

The civil rights movement was a struggle for social justice that took place predominately during the 1950s and 1960s in the United States of America. The movements aim was for Black Americans to gain equal rights under the United States law. The Civil War of the 1860s had officially abolished slavery, but it was not successful in ending the discrimination against Black Americans. Black Americans, particularly in the Southern states, continued to endure the effects of racism. By the mid-20th century, Black Americans began to demand their rights and demanded the stop of prejudice and violence inflicted against them. They, along with many white Americans, banded together and began a never seen before, fight for equality that spanned over two decades. The Civil Rights Movement gave birth to a number of famous personalities such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and the Little Rock Nine.
