Australian History Lesson Plans

The Cunning History Teacher provides secondary History lesson plans written for the New South Wales History syllabus across Stages 4, 5, and 6, and suitable for use in other Australian states. These resources support the teaching of Australian and world history across Years 7–12 and are designed to help teachers deliver clear, structured, and academically rigorous History lessons.

History lesson topics include the ancient past, the medieval world, colonisation and Aboriginal Peoples’ experiences, the development of Australia as a nation, war and conflict, human rights and freedoms, migration, and the modern world. Lessons examine political, economic, social, and cultural developments, as well as significant individuals, groups, events, and historical forces that have shaped societies in Australia and globally.

All resources emphasise key historical skills and concepts, including source analysis, historical inquiry, evidence-based explanation, perspectives, cause and effect, continuity and change, and historical context. Content is written in clear, student-friendly language and structured to support deep understanding and syllabus requirements.

These History lesson plans are classroom-tested, easy to implement, and flexible for different teaching contexts. Teachers can use the resources as provided or adapt them to suit their curriculum, student needs, and teaching style, making them a reliable option for secondary History programs across Australia.
